The #WickedWednesday newsletter is inspired by my desire to share stories focused on promoting community and creating positive change, something we all need more of nowadays.
I'll level with you - I started writing this week's newsletter shortly after publishing the first one. Why? Because I'm overwhelmed by the amount of support for #WickedWednesdays from both strangers, former colleagues and friends alike - thank you!
Also as us #creatives know, when inspiration strikes, doing anything else feels literally impossible.
I helped break a Guinness World Record last week, ya'll!
As I was surfing the interwebs last week, I came across a group called Women in Cloud. Now, I'm not in the tech sector but I decided to have a gander because any group that is actively promoting female empowerment is my M.O.
And it just so happened that I stumbled on this group at exactly the right time - they were hosting a virtual vision board event where they were attempting to break the record for most people vision boarding at one time - and we did!
Pretty #wicked, if I do say so myself.
So, what did I include on my vision board? See for yourself.
I bet if Princess Parker made a vision board it would center around treats and belly rubs. 🐶
What's exciting about vision boards is it gives us the chance to dream up big things that feel possible when you have the support of your community. Needless to say, I've got some pretty lofty and exciting goals for 2024. And it all starts with you, #WickedWriters!
Happy Arts Advocacy Week!
January 22-26 is Arts Advocacy Week in Massachusetts, sponsored by MASSCreative, a non-profit that organizes artists, creatives, cultural groups and changemakers to advocate for a more equitable and inclusive creative sector for all residents of the Commonwealth. Cool writer things.
I just joined the Association of Writers & Writing Programs and I don't know how I never knew this group existed before!
Their mission is to support the voices of writers and the academic programs and organizations that serve them while championing diversity and excellence in creative writing.
I'm not trying to make this an advertisement but for $75/year ($49 if you are a student or adjunct faculty), you get access to their jobs listings, publishing opportunities, a creative writing group directory, The Writer's Chronicle magazine, a discount to their annual conference (the speakers look incredible!) and more.Ok, enough with the sales pitch.
Have you heard of Typism? This community is for lettering artists - *chefs kiss* for a writing/font nerd like myself.
The founder, Dominique Falla, is a design educator from Australia, who not only created this beautiful community, she started the Designpreneurship blog on the intersection of design and business . This article on Transitioning from Freelancer to Designpreneur feels particularly poignant.
"Transitioning from a freelance designer to a Designpreneur marks a pivotal shift from trading time for money to valuing and monetising creative ideas...It involves a mental shift towards seeing oneself as a creative problem-solver and an ideas-driven entrepreneur rather than just a service provider." #preach
International Women's Day: March 8
International Women's Day is March 8 every year. Ironically I discovered this glorious holiday thanks to an ex-boyfriend getting me flowers one random March 8 and me being like what are these for?!
I was really disappointed when I went to the official website and didn't see any Massachusetts events listed in their directory and I KNOW there are events happening. So I'm putting the call out to the #WickedWednesdays crew: send me your events (in the comments or email rachaeldubinsky@gmail.com) and I will put together a list to send out as the date gets closer.
This year's theme is #InspireInclusion.
Where my local yokels at?
Lots of fun activities happening in Metrowest this weekend, including:
Love Story Vintage Market at Avenue C, Jan. 25-28 in Framingham.
Jan 28 from 1-4 p.m. FREE: Framingham’s Collective Journeys, Framingham History Center.
The opening for a mural I helped paint alongside amazing local artist couple Patrick St. Pierre aka @superdaydreamboy and Samela St. Pierre aka @3eyed.tiger! Thank you to the Metrowest Chamber of Commerce for organizing.
Anyways this edition of #WickedWednesdays is way longer than I planned so thank you for sticking with me if you made it all the way to this point.
