This past weekend was 90's con in Hartford and let me tell you, I have found my people! I've always found the "con" world to not quite be up my ally but it turns out there IS a con for everyone - including my little 90's kid loving heart.
Lately, I've been thinking a lot about how nostalgia is one of my favorite feelings - and taking a journey back in time to when baggy pants and MTV ruled the world was just what the doctor ordered.
To be honest, I wasn't there for the celebrities. Although cast members from some of my favorite shows at a child were there, including Boy Meets World and Full House, I was just excited to spend time with one of my favorite people (my sister) and recollect about all the cool and funny trends that shaped our childhood. Thank you, Lauren B. Dubinsky, MBA, for the amazing present!
I'm not going to pontificate about how the 90's were a simpler time, where BSB or NSYNC was the controversy of the day. I am, however, going to relay that shared experiences and memories are crucial to the creative process (see what I did there?!).
One does not just create a whole weekend dedicated to a particular decade without drawing upon artistic inspiration. From hand stitched rugs of the Nintendo logo to screen printed flannel with a sweet Patrick/Spongebob jam sesh to Lisa Frank earrings, all the vendors at 90’s con took a moment in time and turned it into something beautiful.
90’s con was a wonderful gathering of folks whose businesses bring about a great amount of joy, which is *chef's kiss* in my opinion. After all, those same principals are why Wicked Writers exists!
Female Entrepreneur Feature: Jamie Chapman, founder of Chickbook Creative
My first female-identifying entrepreneur feature for #WomensHistoryMonth is the one and only Jamie Chapman. Unofficial Metrowest Massachusetts welcoming committee, brain geek extraordinaire and shepherd of entrepreneur's dreams, Jamie is a one-of-a-kind business coach/consultant and all around great human being.
Her business, Chickbook Creative, truly is a love letter to her sons, and also a heart-centered approach to helping entrepreneurs succeed. I recently took advantage of her Mindsweep Mind-Mapping offering and let me tell you, whether you're starting a business or just trying to figure out what the wear for the week, this process is a must for anyone looking for clarity on big or small decisions.
Jamie has created an incredible community of creative female-identifying entrepreneurs who lift one another up. She has a weekly Mindsweep newsletter (that definitely served as the inspiration for #WickedWednesdays), she is the creator and host of weekly Curated Conversations on Mondays (open to all!) and so much more.
So what are you waiting for?! Connect with Jamie today!
