Taylor Swift, the poet
I don't consider myself a Swiftie (yet) but I do have to say Taylor has my attention with her new double secret album: The Tortured Poets Department. She had me at poetry! If there are any Swifties in the #wickedwednesdays audience my apologies for being so late to the game.
I certainly can appreciate the artistry it takes to put music out into the world and it's obvious Taylor is on a whole other level. In addition to being an incredibly talented singer and songwriter, she is a super talented business woman.
I watched the Eras Tour on Disney+ recently and each song was awe-inspiring from the lyrics to the sets to the fashion. And she was able to get that produced mid-strike coming out of COVID?! 🤯 Spoiler alert: she gave the laborers what they wanted in negotiations - and that's how you get things done.
This is all to say as National Poetry Month comes to a close, who better than the Queen of Lyrics to send us off.
As for her inspiration for this new double secret album - we get fatalism in love and we get commentary on how society treats artists.
"What do we do to our writers, and our artists, and our creatives? We put them through hell. We watch what they create, then we judge it. We love to watch artists in pain, often to the point where I think sometimes as a society we provoke that pain and we just watch what happens," Swift states.
Support artists and stop judging them. Mic drop.

For any printmakers out there, I'm excited to report I just discovered the first Saturday in May is Print Day (May 4 this year)! This annual, global celebration is all about the tens of thousands of printmakers around the world who share their experiences with others through prints.
I have really gotten in to printmaking recently and even created a print for #WickedWriters during a workshop I took with Natalia Slattery at the Danforth Art Museum in Framingham, MA.
Want to participate in Print Day in May on May 4?
Register as a community member and share your print on the Print Day in May community blog. (Note: registered participants will be included in the directory of global printmakers and and receive up to six emailed newsletters per year.)
Share your contributions on Instagram or Facebook using the #printdayinmay hashtag.
Whether it's poetry or printmaking (or both!), there are so many creative ways to express yourself. Keep exploring, #wickedwriters!
