It's Gonna Be Speech Season!
The #WickedWednesday newsletter is inspired by my desire to share stories focused on promoting community and creating positive change, something we all need more of nowadays.
Happy May, #wickedwriters!
Spring is in the air and with it comes #graduation and #wedding celebrations. There is something very spring about coming together with friends and family and marking special occasions, which is why I am officially declaring spring to be #SpeechSeason.
I personally have two weddings coming up, one of which I will be giving a speech at, so now seemed as good a time as share some #SpeechSeason thoughts. Whether you are a seasoned speaker or practicing your public speaking skills for the first time, keep these tricks and tips in mind:
Keep it short and sweet - nothing is worse than someone giving a speech that drones on and on. Around 3-5 minutes is the sweet spot for a celebratory speech like a wedding or graduation toast.
Being funny is not required - a lot of folks think they have to tell a joke or be funny in order to be a good speaker and that is not the case. In fact, a speech that borders on roast is not recommended! More important than having a good punch line is being prepared and telling a succinct story.
Make it from the heart - if you are speaking about how much another person means to you or a time in your life where you learned something meaningful, chances are the waterworks will fly.
Have an upcoming speech and want a speechwriter’s opinion? Send us a note at rachaeldubinsky@gmail.com and we’ll help you get your big speech just right!
Happy Small Business Week
It's #smallbusiness week and I just wanted to take a moment to thank the #wickedwednesdays crew for their support!
Hearing from friends, family and strangers about what this newsletter and our writing services mean to them is what keeps us going strong.
If you are looking to start your own small business, make sure to check out available resources through the Small Business Administration. I also recently discovered SCORE, which offers mentorship and free to low-cost services for folks starting their own business (with local chapters across the country).
I would also like to shout out to my friend and AMAZING realtor, Isa Helena, who is crushing her business and came over recently for a doggy play date with her pup, Gracie. She got us our first home in this crazy market!
If you're in the market to buy or sell a home, make sure to reach out to isa@betterlivingre.com.
Princess Parker and Gracie say thank you for supporting small businesses and female entrepreneurs!
