Hi #WickedWriters,
I’ve been thinking a lot about you— my audience— and the intentions of this podcast. I have lived in the Boston area for about four years now, and I have to say there is no place like New England. While I am originally from Southern Connecticut (yes, there is a difference between the NY side and New England side), I never really considered myself a New Englander growing up. From the accents to the lobster to the Masshole driving style, many areas of New England have a very distinct vibe (#NewEnglandVibes anyone?).
This is all to say that the theme of Wicked Writers is meant to play on one of New England’s favorite words: “wicked”. All of the guests I have had on the #pod thus far either currently live in New England (mostly Boston but I’m branching out in Season 2) or have some connection to Boston. This week’s episode with Andy Michaels, an Emerson grad and Harvard Square Cantab Lounge regular (RIP), showed me just how strong our New England roots can be. After all, we love to flaunt that New England pride (I’m looking at you, #dunkiesgirl).
As I wrap up season one of the podcast (last episode of 2020 airs on December 22), there are a lot of exciting things happening with the Wicked Writers podcast. We are now a part of the Ambiguous Podcast Solutions fam, I am teaching a public speaking class through Cambridge Adult Education Center starting in January (#shamelessselfplug) and I made a Wicked Writers Threadless store for all your holiday shopping needs! All proceeds for the rest of 2020 will go to local community fridges in the Greater Boston area.
Here is your 2020 recap of all the season one Wicked Writers episodes thus far:
Andy Michaels, Fiction Writer (Emerson Alum, Cantab Regular (RIP) and DnD lifer)
Zenda Walker, Know Your Hairitage (Bentley Alum)
Kwame Sarfo-Mensah, Identity Talk, LLC. (Boston-based education consultant)
Dave Cavell, lawyer and former Obama speechwriter (Boston-based political operative)
Emily Smith, Guide to Wholeness Healing, LLC. (Boston-based holistic coach)
I’m so excited to keep talking to all of the amazing New England creators in 2021— season two is already looking amazing! If you are interested in being on the #pod, e-mail me at hello@wickedwriters.org.
Stay #Wicked,
Rachael
