Dear #WickedWriters,
What a ride 2020 has been. While this isn’t the year any of us expected, 2020 has shown us just how important it is to connect with loved ones and make our voices heard. I wanted to take this last newsletter of 2020 to focus on to concept of wonder.
Yes, I’m huge Wonder Woman fan (currently wearing this baller Wonder Woman sweater). Yes, I’m very excited for Friday’s release of Wonder Woman 1984 (which was originally supposed to come out on my 31st birthday). What I’m even more excited for is the wonder that a female superhero brings straight into our living rooms.
While it is not the same as the theatrical experience, movies help us escape and if done right, make us believe that anything is possible. I’m in love with Wonder Woman not just because she is a kickass female superhero, but because she doesn’t run away from her flaws.
At some point we are all taught that there is something about us that is not “perfect”. Often this leads to a cycle of self-doubt and shame. But, I wonder if in 2021 we can aim to embrace our imperfections just a little bit more than we did in 2020.
A pandemic and fraught political climate creates a lot of tension. Each one of us has shown immense strength in just getting through this year. So, for 2021, I challenge you to stay curious and embrace the unknown. Because after all, there is a lot of wonder that lies in a future not yet fully realized.
For my last episode of 2020, I talked with BellaBianca Lynn, a belly dancer and poet from Dedham, MA. We discussed just how important it is to keep moving no matter what comes our way. Even if we don’t have dance or writing training, it’s important to move our bodies and our minds to stay sane. I encourage you to take a listen as BellaBianca shares a poem and her thoughts on the therapeutic nature of both dance and writing.
And ICMYI, here are all the Season One episodes for your listening pleasure:
